Going Under The Knife

Going Under The Knife: When Diet and Exercise Just Aren’t Cutting It

Tired of hitting the gym, fad diets, and no results? Sometimes our bodies need a little extra help.

In this post we discuss how to cut the weight by going under the knife.

Read on to learn the difference between gastric banding and gastric bypass surgeries to see if either are the right option for you!

GASTRIC BANDING: WHAT’S THE SKINNY?

Think: “Shrink!”

Gastric banding is a restrictive surgery where a band is inserted to divide your stomach in half in order to help slow down digestion.

What We Love:

  • Simple: Don’t sweat it-most qualified surgeons perform this surgery all the time!
  • Safe: Most surgeons consider this to be a safe option.
  • Pretty: You won’t be stuck with a nasty scar!
  • Easy: Recovery time should be smooth sailing!
  • No regrets: It’s reversible!

What We Love Less: The weight loss with gastric banding isn’t always very dramatic, and some patients regain. Common side effects include vomiting, infection, or band slippage/leakage.

GASTRIC BYPASS: WHAT’S THE SKINNY?

Think: “Divide and conquer!”

Gastric bypass is surgery where your surgeon will divide your stomach in half and connect the lower half to the lower part of your small intestines. Basically: your body absorbs less calories.

What We Love:

Drama!: Get your skinny jeans ready because the results of this surgery are typically fast and dramatic

  • Long Term: Keep the weight off, longer.

What We Love Less:

Less calories can mean less nutrients so supplements and a healthy diet are a must.

Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, weakness and bloating. Gastric Bypass is generally irreversible
